Vermont Alliance for the Social Studies 32nd Annual Conference

The Vermont Alliance for the Social Studies is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our 32nd annual conference on November 18th at Capitol Plaza Hotel Montpelier and Vermont Historical Society in Montpelier, VT.

Vermont’s 250th: Public History, Inquiry, and Native Voices:
Using the “American Abenaki Curriculum” and the exhibition “Parley & Protocol: War
and Peace” we examine Indigenous voices that shape our understanding of Vermont’s
past and the way uplifting multiple perspectives can prepare students to become
informed citizens. Rather than presenting history as a collection of memorized facts,
educators can engage students with compelling questions, examining evidence,
discussing multiple perspectives, and taking informed action to empower students to
become thoughtfully informed, empathetic, civically engaged citizens. This interactive
session provides a framework to present a fuller story of Vermont at 250 by including
Indigenous voices and extending learning beyond the classroom. Presented by Vera
