SUMMARY:Understanding Place: Wabanaki Textiles and Fiber Art
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by artist & educator Vera Longtoe Sheehan\nUnderstanding Place: Wabanaki Textiles and Fiber Art provides the audience the opportunity to examine samples of twined weaving and learn how it connects to the land and Abenaki history. The lecture will cover Vera’s family oral tradition as well as her research into Wabanaki archeology and first-hand studies of surviving ‘material culture’. Additionally\, participants can make a hands-on connection to Abenaki culture by making a small textile sample\, similar to what has been found at archeological sites of the northeast.\n\nThis Lecture/Workshop will be held at Stone Valley Arts in Poultney\, VT. After the workshop is finished\, join us at 5pm for the Celebrating Abenaki Arts\, Heritage\, & Culture Art Show Opening & Artist Reception\nThe Celebrating Abenaki Arts\, Heritage\, & Culture Art Show will be open at Stone Valley Arts from May 31 – July 30\, 2023\n\nMore workshops will be hosted by Stone Valley Arts this summer of 2023.
