Artist Statement

I have traveled the country, going to various powwows and gatherings. I’ve been fortunate to have been given opportunities to learn from well-experienced crafters. I mainly specialize in parfleché, which is a plains-style painted rawhide and elaborately painted carved horse/bird dance sticks.

The majority of my designs are original I will also create a design that compliments a dancer’s regalia. You can find my pieces worn at powwows all across the US and Canada. Other areas of my work include quillwork, beadwork, ledger art and sewing appliqué.

Though by blood I am  Abenaki,  Miqmaq and Scottish descent, I live each day in the Lakota ways and beliefs that were taught to me by my Hunka Tiyospiye (adopted family). Because of this, my pieces are more of a plains style influence than eastern woodland.

I’d like to thank those who have gone before me and fought so that we may live freely in our traditional ways. Without their sacrifices and courage, we would not be here.
