As a Berklee College of Music Alumni, Bryan Blanchette has always had a passion for writing, performing, and producing music. He started singing at Powwows over twenty years ago, and was soon writing Algonquin language songs based in the Massachusetts dialect.
In 2004 he founded the Black Hawk Singers A traditional Powwow Drum group. They released their first CD in 2012 “Just For The Fun Of It” which featured several new songs in the Abenaki dialect. Two years later the Black Hawk Singers released their second CD, a collection of all new Abenaki songs titled “Wskintow8gonal wji Aln8mbac” (New Songs for the Abenaki).
In December of 2015, with permission from Tom Rush Bryan translated, and converted the melody of Merrimack County into Abenaki. He is currently writing, and performing new Abenaki Language songs for contemporary acoustic instrumentation.
Bryan recently granted permission to The Chicago Youth Choral Theater to perform an arrangement of his song "Kesuke Wunni" on April 28th, 2017.
